What we replace
Most White Rock homes use one of two spring systems. Both wear out, and both are far safer left to a trained tech.
These sit on a metal shaft above the door and twist to lift it. They're the most common system on modern doors and the most dangerous to service because of the tension they hold. We carry common sizes and high-cycle options on the truck.
These run along the horizontal tracks on either side and stretch as the door closes. Common on older doors. We always check that the safety cables are intact — vital for keeping a broken extension spring from becoming a projectile.

Springs wear out from everyday use — most are rated for roughly 10,000 open-and-close cycles. Here by the bay, salty coastal air speeds things up by rusting and pitting the steel, so springs near West Beach and East Beach often give out sooner. A loud bang and a door that won't open are the classic signs.
We strongly recommend against it. Torsion springs hold tremendous tension and cause serious injuries every year when they let go. It is the one repair that really should be left to a trained technician with the proper winding bars and tools. That is exactly what we are here for.
